Recent things

Things Wystan has said:

Mamun = Asmund
BlueOne = Anything (One)
Awthe Mall? = Are we going to the mall?

Things Asmund has said:

Are you a doggie? No. I'm Asmund. I'm tired of walking.

Me want to look at the toys. That is what me is talking about!

Asmund believes that snow means it's Christmas, so when it snowed on the 22nd, he woke up saying, "It's Christmas!" I said, "No, it's not." He said, "Look!" pointing out the window.

Dec 28th: Me think Santa leave presents again.

These tiny little things with chocolate in them. They called M and M's.

The Power of Dolphins

Asmund was upset about something, crying, and Wystan brought him his stuffed dolphin Dolphy. It was sweet!

Things to help mommy with

Asmund is monitoring Carrie's water intake. He said, "Water will fix baby." He started feeling around Carrie's belly and said he was fixing her baby from when Wystan jumped on her belly. He said he needed bandaids and she had to drink lots of water.

Tents and mommy

Carrie stuck her head into the boys' tent to see Wystan. He smiled at her, then pointed and insisted, "Go, go!"

"It's mine day! It's mine day!" Asmund on his fourth birthday.

"That ho-ho-ho movie. Let me show you let me show you. Ghosts of Christmas!" Asmund: on the Looney Tunes version of Christmas Carol

"A spaceship like a bird. Lots of wings and guns. A big ship bird movie." Asmund, talking about building a ship with Lego Duplos.

"Mama. Mama." Wystan getting my attention.

Asmund: "Baby and me is like superheroes."

Recent things

Asmund: You are my favorite daddy! We watch movies, we going to park, we eat, and doing dishes!

Asmund said, Me love my bones in my body. Me love my bones all my life!

From Carrie:
Just caught Asmund trying to "rope" the window unit down the stairs. "Rope"= pull it to the edge by the cord and use that momentum to send it downstairs. Oh my.

Today's bit of sweetness: Dennis left for Newton about an hour ago. Two minutes after he left, Asmund decided we should go on a walk. We set out, the boys barefoot and wielding swords, and within half a block I realize why Asmund wants to go, "We catch Daddy! Daddy this way." I tried to explain that we couldn't catch daddy, "We go faster. Run faster faster faster!!!" When I told him we couldn't outrun a car, "Hum...go to Daddy's office." I tried to explain that daddy wasn't in his office tonight, but after thirty minues of walk, just lured him home with promises of Looney Tunes.

Asmund just informed me that his name is Asmundor. He said Dennis gave him the name.

Asmund and Wystan have been up since 4 and are still going strong. Wy is playing with dice and A is booby trapping the living room with dental floss.

Asmund said, “You have one baby in your tummy.”

Asmund is racing from one end of the block to the other, the long way. At the beginning, I say, “One, two, three, go,” and at the end he jumps up and down shouting, “We win! We win!”

When Asmund asked me for water, Wystan walked into the kitchen and brought back out a glass of water for him.

Things from facebook

From Carrie:

Asmund is growing up! Today as I put him in his car seat he asked me not to pat his bottom--not in the car or outside or going up the stairs etc etc etc. I told him very seriously that I would stop, that he had the right to decide who gets to pat his bottom because that is part of his body. I'm kinda sad--no more baby tush! He's a big kid who's outgrown that!! I'm also pretty excited that I got to...
have an open talk about respecting another person's body, and get to model that for him. As a child who was frequently spanked in the old "pull down your pants and lean over" method, I never felt like I had control over my body. Parents are the people children learn respect from--here's hoping I can give that gift to my kids!

Me want lots of cookies in my tummy!

This morning's awesomeness:
Asmund: "Daddy, wake up!!
Dennis: "I want to sleep longer."
Asmund: "It's morning, silly poop!"

[

From Carrie: Watching Dennis teach Asmund to use the typewriter last night, all I could think of was the sense of security and well being Asmund and Wystan will have all their lives from the love of their Dad. I married the best man I know. :)

Nothing like being woken up by "MAMA!! Wipe mine bobbom!!" HAHA!!

From Carrie

Asmund is informing Ron that he has a "poop pot" gun. Carl gave his groomsmen nerf guns. We now have two in the house and EVERYTHING is fair game.

More great things

When Asmund and I were heading downstairs while Wystan was sleeping, Asmund wanted to write a note for Wy. He took a pen and paper, and in scribbly lines, wrote: "Me, daddy, downstairs, movie." I added, "Be sure to let him know he can come down when he wakes up." "You, come, downstairs, awake."

When we asked Asmund how he felt about having another baby brother or sister, his eyes widened as he smiled. Then he pouted. "What's wrong?" we asked. "No sister!" We are in the process of telling him either would be wonderful. :)

Updates

Our three-year-old snuck out of bed, grabbed a steak knife to open our cabinet without handles to get to the DVDs, and watched Spider-Man. What's next? A beer?

After I put on the movie he wanted to see, Asmund called me his "Cookie Daddy."

From Carrie:

Respecting my son's individuality means buying him the (ugly) yarn he picked for his hat. Having bounderies means makeing him choose from the sales shelf. Here we come orangy-browny-bluey "rwar rwar hat"!

Dennis is Asmund/Santa's sled. Santa has lots of reindeer-Poopie, Cookie, Bubbles, Bad Guy, Batman, Superman...and suddenly we've crossed genres. :)

Good cop/bad cop in toddler speak-cookie daddy/poopie mommy.

Updates with superheroes

Asmund and Wystan are really into The Avengers and Spider-Man. We watch the trailers for the movies, as, even the cartoons are a little too violent. I should get Spider-Man and his Amazing Friends.

Here are more updates:

Me: Did you count the superheroes? Asmund: Uh-huh. How many are there? Lots!

Asmund: Me home, you home. (mi casa, su casa)

Carrie found amazing superhero shirts today--The Avengers sans Hulk with Spider-Man. Wystan points at his shirt, puts his hands up, and goes "Eeeerrrrrrrrrrr."

From Carrie:

Asmund just made R2D2 with my canners and sieve. He makes the sieve turn and beep and in addition to this awesomness has informed us that he is Yoda.

Marvel Heroscape

I pulled out my Marvel Heroscape game for the boys and I to play with, and Asmund likes to mimic how the figures are posed. He uses a pan lid for a shield and makes a fist for Captain America, he clinches both fists for Hulk, and extends his index and pinky for Spider-Man.

Carrie just posted this: Darth Vader and the Hulk are playing "Aad Guys" game. Vader is the daddy and hulk is the baby.

Assorted EC and such

Asmund says to me, "Up you! Up you!" what he means: Pick me up. :) It makes me chuckle. I want to make it the message on my voice mail. Carrie notes, it can also mean "I want to help you."

From Carrie:

Help! I'm being attacked by Penne fingers!!! Wait, that's just Asmund finding new uses for pasta. :)

Flirting with ECing. When Wy comes into the bathroom I take off his diaper and let him play with the Baby Bjorn. So far he's not pee'd into it, but he likes taking the fuzzies off his penis and putting those in the toilet, so that's something.

Just found Wystan crying in the middle of the living room, barelegged and clutching a minibottle of wine he lifted from the fridge.

From Carrie

Asmund has informed me that I don't have to clean because I'm his mommy. If only!

Wystan and I woke (rewoke--not counting the 4-6 bit) at nine this morning to find Asmund covered in pillows and watching Easter Parade. Kid has good taste. :)

Wystan found a pacifier and is walking around chewing on it out of the corner of his mouth looking like an old man with a pipe.

The Adventures of Tintin, by Asmund

Tintin, by Asmund. He told me what he wrote so I could translate on the other side. He wrote about the airplane scene, including the two "bubbles".

Bad guys have no home

Asmund said he didn't want to be home. He says he's a bad guy and bad guys don't have homes.

(Needless to say, I'll correct him on this when he's old enough to understand.)

Buggers and bad guys

Me to Asmund: Are you picking your nose?
A: Yes.
Me: Are you eating your buggers?
A: Yes.
Me: Why?
A: Cause 'ee 'ad guy.
Me: So...bad guys eat their buggers?
A: Yes.

Updates March 2012

Wystan is helping Dennis fix the vacuum cleaner. It's pretty adorable.

Asmund had red poop this morning from eating beets. He just went in to the bathroom telling me that this time he would have cheese poop, green poop, or blue poop.

Asmund wanted to watch I Love Lucy. Now he's going around the house saying "Lucy, Lucy, Lucy."

Our to do list today includes making felt crowns and masks, picking bedroom/buffet paint and keeping Wystan from dive bombing off whatever new piece of furniture he decides to climb.

Asmund has changed into clothes of his choice--large train shirt, two different doggy socks, and Thomas the train undies on his head.

Wystan is playing peek-a-boo. While nursing. Not with me, no. With my boob. hehe

Wystan is still rear facing. I couldn't wait to turn Asmund's seat around, but that was just because society has made it this big event. At first it felt wierd to have Wy RF, even though I knew about the safety issues but now I think he likes it better--facing Asmund enables him to play (and fight) with his brother!

Asmund knows how to count-one, two, three, LOTS!

More

From Sunday: Last night in bed, Asmund said: Mommy is mine Mommy, Daddy is mine Daddy, and baby (Wystan) is mine baby.

Asmund knows how to count-one, two, three, LOTS!

Asmund has been reminding us of our family relationship several times a day lately. It can be sweet, matter of fact or even a bit growly. Tonight, going to sleep, he looked up at me and said, very tenderly, "You are mine mommy". Nothing in the world quite like that. :)

A movie at night

I told Asmund earlier that we "would watch Star Wars tonight." Asmund said, while pointing outside: "Tonight outside, movie, boom boom." He was reminding me that I said it. What a memory!

When daddy was a baby

Last night, Dennis told Asmund a story about when he was a little boy. Asmund asked if he nursed when he was little. Dennis replied that yes, Grandma nursed him because Grandma is his mommy. Asmund thought that was pretty funny.

Movies

The spare room is now called "Daddy's Room," and now I think I know why. Asmund says, "Lots of movies in dad's room." Yes. Dad loves movies.

Lucky

Me: "Are we lucky to have Wystan or what?"

Asmund: "What."

Watching Star Wars

Asmund refers to Star Wars as "Boom boom." He loved watching it, especially during the lightsaber battle between Obi-Wan and Darth Vader. He was going: "Yes! Yes!"

A dream

Joy: I had a dream the other night that Asmund called me Aunt Joy! I was happy when I woke up.

Carrie: He did Saturday when he saw you on the porch! Well, it was more like "An Doy!"

Burp

Asmund fakes a burp. Then he says, Tu tee. Translation: Excuse me.

Yes or no

Carrie to Asmund: "Do you want to go with daddy? Say 'yes' or 'no'."

Asmund: "Yes or no."

Saturday, February 4, 2012

Star Wars

Asmund is still not feeling well, but he is going to watch Star Wars for the first time (with fast forwards over scary elements).

The Looney Tunes were on this morning. Carrie came in saying, "I love the Looney Tunes."
"And me," added Asmund.
"Yes, mommy loves you, too."

Cell phone use

When I was teaching, Asmund wanted to call me. He wanted to tell me a bear secret: growl growl.

The other night, Asmund was saying, "Nine noon! Nine noon!" Translation: Mine [my] room!

Also, Wystan called 411 for information the other day.
